An International Wedding in Gdańsk – Claire & Peter

When two people from across the ocean dream of getting married in Poland, Gdańsk often appears at the very top of their list of dream locations. This was also the case for Claire and Peter, who live and work in New York on a daily basis, yet decided to say “I do” right here — by the Polish seaside.

As a wedding planner based in Gdańsk, specializing in international weddings in Poland, I had the great pleasure of supporting them in the planning and coordination of this truly special day.

Why Choose Gdańsk for Your Wedding?

Gdańsk is a city that beautifully combines European history, romantic architecture, and modern infrastructure, making it an ideal destination for a destination wedding in Poland.

The city offers:

  • stunning historic churches where ceremonies can also be held in English
  • exceptional outdoor wedding venues
  • atmospheric hotels and apartments in the city centre
  • spectacular backdrops for wedding photo sessions

This diversity is exactly what makes a wedding in Gdańsk so attractive to international couples.

Romantic Wedding Preparations in the Heart of Gdańsk

The wedding day began with preparations in the very heart of the city, right by the Motława River, in an apartment overlooking the iconic Crane (Żuraw). It’s one of those places that perfectly reflects the spirit of Gdańsk and creates a dream setting for wedding emotions.

After a calm moment spent with their closest family, we moved to an intimate terrace where an incredibly emotional first look took place — not only with the groom, but also with the bride’s father.

Afterwards, the couple, together with their bridesmaids and groomsmen, walked through the charming streets of Gdańsk’s Old Town, taking advantage of the time for a pre-ceremony photo session.

Church Wedding at St. Mary’s Basilica in Gdańsk

Is there a more impressive place for a church wedding in Gdańsk than St. Mary’s Basilica? Its monumental Gothic architecture and famous pipe organ create an incredibly elegant and solemn atmosphere for the ceremony.

The wedding procession was truly grand:

  • the groom with his mother
  • a group of bridesmaids and groomsmen
  • Claire with her parents, preceded by flower boys scattering petals

The entire ceremony was held in English, and the couple also exchanged their personal vows, giving the wedding a deeply intimate and international character.

Why Is the Best Wedding in Poland?

It’s no coincidence that more and more couples choose to have their wedding in Poland, even if they live abroad permanently.

Dancing until dawn, tables overflowing with delicious food, a wide selection of alcohol, and numerous additional attractions make Polish weddings an unforgettable experience for guests from all over the world.

Anyone who has experienced a wedding in Poland even once will remember it for a long time — and for many, it becomes the absolute number one among wedding celebrations.

An International Wedding in Poland with the Support of a Wedding Planner

Organizing an international wedding in Poland requires experience, knowledge of formal procedures, and an understanding of local logistics. That’s why working with a wedding planner in Gdańsk allows couples to fully enjoy both the preparations and the wedding day itself — without stress, language barriers, or logistical challenges.

Claire and Peter’s story is the perfect example that a destination wedding in Poland can truly be a dream come true — elegant, emotional, and flawlessly planned.
